Painted in response to Nicolas de Staël's Trois Poires (1954), seen by David Caldwell RP at the Musée d'Art Moderne retrospective in Paris. As David puts it, "the image stayed with me — disarmingly simple yet so powerful and layered — so I made this response piece based on the subject and composition."
