David Caldwell RP is a multi-award-winning Scottish artist, based in Scotland, and an elected member of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art (1994–98) and the Royal Drawing School (2003–05), and paints from life across still-life, portrait and landscape.
Over the years David has received many awards and residencies, and his work is held in private collections across the UK and overseas.
At Eye Feast, Regent's Park Gallery is showing two of David's recent oils on board: Three Pears (homage to Nicolas de Staël) and Apricots. Both were painted in 2024. Three Pears is David's response to Nicolas de Staël's Trois Poires (1954), which he encountered at the Musée d'Art Moderne retrospective in Paris; Apricots was painted in France from a bowl of seasonal fruit — a simple celebration of colour and texture.
