Me Time, Paintings by Kris Soguilon
After over a dozen solo exhibitions in the Philippines and Singapore, this is Kris Soguilon’s first solo exhibition in the UK.
Since training at University of the Philippines College of Fine Arts, he has lived and worked in London for more than two decades.
He paints at night; it’s his “me time”.
In The Bather, Soguilon takes on one of painting’s great subjects. Like Bonnard, who painted his wife Marthe in the bath for decades, he paints his own wife, Aliza. His bather is entirely of now: relaxed in a London bathroom, surrounded by beauty products, phone in hand, flip-flops on the rug.
Elsewhere, a cab driver reaches for a coffee at a rainy drive-through. A man films himself in the barber’s chair. Fish, chips & chopsticks was inspired by watching someone in a chip shop stuggling to eat their chips with a stubby wooden 'fork'.
The exhibition features recent London paintings. On the gallery website you can also browse and buy his incredible paintings located in the Philippines.
