The Cutlery I Used When I Was Smaller (& Still Use Sometimes Now)
The Cutlery I Used When I Was Smaller (& Still Use Sometimes Now)
Two colourful plastic implements are laid out. They’re children’s cutlery - one has the head of Mickey Mouse at one end, the other has the dog from The Tweenies on the handle. This is an observational painting, made from life and showing a real pair of items that the artist still regularly uses. The spoon was featured in another of Jolley’s paintings - After The Yoghurt - which was sold at Regent Park Gallery’s previous show, Eye Feast. The painting is a nostalgic reminder of an earlier phase of life and suggests we need not totally say goodbye to our childhoods.
