Spying on the Kingdom

Part of Jolley’s original series of ceramic plate-paintings, this picture relates directly to the themes of suburban voyeurism he was exploring at the time. This smaller, considered picture demonstrates a keen understanding of the transformative qualities of the firing process. Painted onto a bisque-fired standard rimmed plate, the colours only take on their final appearance after activating in the heat of a secondary firing.
