Landscape With Confines and Stripes

Like many of Jolley's paintings, this one takes the language of abstraction — which he loves — and applies it to naturalistic, dedicatedly observed everyday life. The striped brickwork of an opposite building becomes a geometric miniature colour-field, or would, were it not for the drainpipes, windows and cladding.
