Aaron Jolley

From The Roof of The Golden Beam, Headingley

From The Roof of The Golden Beam, Headingley

The Golden Beam is a pub in the Headingley area of Leeds and was Jolley’s former place of work. This small study was made after persuading a manager to allow him and his painting equipment access to the roof of the building. Although direct and frontal, the composition quietly likens the triangular shape of the central building with a trilogy of local landmarks - the spire of St. Micheal’s Church on the right, the row of familiar terrace housing in the foreground and the floodlight of Headingley Cricket Stadium on the left.
