Rear Window

The backs of houses. A tree in winter that’s shed its leaves. An ordinary fence. This daylight alternative to Jolley’s painting Frontier takes the view from his former bedroom window and transforms the everyday view into something ominous, as the Hitchcock-ian title affirms. This painting was part of a series that explored the confines of domestic city living and the awkward dynamics that arise when your view is that of somebody else’s window.
