Sophie Levi at Eye Feast 2026: harbours, working boats and the long British coast

About Sophie Levi

Sophie Levi is a landscape and portrait painter, art teacher and curator. She has lived and painted in the Regent’s Park area of London for over thirty years, and runs Regent’s Park Gallery at 17 Princess Road, NW1 8JR, where she curates an ongoing programme of exhibitions by contemporary painters and printmakers.

Her own work follows a long British painting tradition — oil paintings on wood, made on location and in the studio, of working harbours and the coastline that surrounds them. The subjects are mostly small and ordinary: a single fishing boat against a granite quay, the way light sits on shingle at low tide, the colour of clear shallow water, a line of net huts under a winter sky. The paintings are quiet but specific. Each one is rooted in a particular harbour, visited at a particular hour.

The Harbours & Coast series

For Eye Feast 2026 Sophie has brought together a body of work made over many seasons along the British and northern French coasts. The harbours represented include Padstow, Newlyn, Whitstable, Hastings, Brixham, Broadstairs, Porthleven and Porthgwidden Beach in Cornwall and Devon; Mallaig on the Scottish mainland and Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye; and Normandy and La Rochelle on the French coast. Several of the works carry a contemporary concern alongside their subject — most clearly in Save Our Fish, which sits within the series as a quiet acknowledgement of the present pressures on British inshore fishing.

Originals and prints

Five subjects in the show are available both as the original oil on wood (a unique, signed piece) and as a signed and numbered giclée print in an edition of 250: Harbour, Sussex; Padstow Harbour; Newlyn Harbour; Whitstable Harbour; and Hastings Catch. Two further works are offered as the original oil only — Brixham and Porthleven Harbour Boats. The remainder of the series is sold as a signed giclée print in an edition of 250.
