About Christina Jansen

Christina Jansen is a Dutch-born London-based photographer and artist. Born in Amsterdam to a Liverpudlian writer mother and a Dutch photojournalist father, she knew from a young age she wanted to be an artist. At eleven she moved with her mother and brother to Devon, where she had to learn English fast.

After A-Levels she completed an art foundation course specialising in silkscreen printing, then studied art and drama at Crewe & Alsager College in Stoke-on-Trent — where she explored photo silkscreen, photo etching and photography in depth and graduated with a BA Hons. Her first job was photographing all the pre-1950s buildings of Stoke-on-Trent for Hanley City Museum.

Christina moved to London and built a career as a people and portrait photographer. Her sitters have included Muhammad Ali, Zandra Rhodes, Robert Plant, Van Morrison, Bob Hoskins, Brian Cox, Jon Snow, Joan Bakewell and Andrew Marr, alongside many leading musicians from stage and screen.

Her photographic commissions have spanned fashion stills for feature films, album covers, corporate portraiture, weddings, travel, food and interiors. She has illustrated a number of books, including the Susan Brooks Cookery Book, the Complete Guide to Pregnancy and Childcare, Joy of Sex book covers, the Eurotunnel book of Northern Europe (Weekends Across the Channel), and several books on beauty subjects.

Christina was awarded a prize by the British Journal of Photography for the portrait series Canvas and Camera. Her work has also taken her around the world — shooting commissions in America, Canada, Scandinavia, Switzerland and Malta, and most recently photographing John Otway in the Caribbean, a commission that included flying over a live volcano in a helicopter.

Alongside her photographic practice, Christina has worked as a model, as a photographic consultant, as a presenter for BBC2, and has taught photography at Syracuse University.

At Eye Feast, Regent's Park Gallery is showing two of Christina's limited-edition photographic prints: Fruit Feast and Lickett & Smyle, both produced as Pro Gloss prints in limited edition.
