After running life-drawing sessions in Primrose Hill for over 15 years, I thought it was high time our regular artists had the chance to show their work to a wider public.
Hopefully, you will enjoy their pictures, and they might inspire you to come along to one of our weekly drop-in sessions yourself.
Our artists come from all parts of the city and all walks of life. Their approaches to life drawing are as varied as they are, some preferring to work in pencil or charcoal, others in pastels, paint or collage.
Their common bond is the pleasure they derive from two hours of total absorption in their task. In many ways, it’s a form of meditation, a way to switch off from the noise of life.
Instruction is there if you’d like it. The emphasis is on sharpening observational skills in a series of model poses varying from two to forty minutes. There’s no pressure to either create a finished work or have it assessed.
Many stay behind after sessions to enjoy the array of drawings and get involved in discussions that invariably continue across the road in the nearby pub.
Focus and have fun is our mantra - and in following it, we’ve developed a richly rewarding sense of community.
My heartfelt thanks to the regulars who have done so much to prepare this exhibition with me, and to Russell Chalusian for his help at the sessions.
Thanks to Mick Hudspeth and the Primrose Hill Community Centre team, and to everyone who has fundraised, donated, and given their time to make the Centre the thriving place it is.
